Thanks for the peak week efforts

The Xmas NY rush is done. We think it went really well. Lots of happy clients. Lots of great feedback (brace yourselves).

Just about everyone in the school has either rolled lessons over or been requested by a client at some point already. Awesome work with so many new instructors.

Thank you!

If you need time off now, just ask in the office.

Après Ski in uniform

We are aware there has been some après going on beyond the 6pm time limit, we wanted to give you some of the reasons you must be out of uniform by 6pm

How it looks to our clients

It’s fun having a drink with clients sometimes, and while they may want you to stay and drink we can’t think of one client who is going to say ‘the instructor was unprofessional because they wouldn’t stay and drink with me’. It looks like you respect your job and the image of the school.

However much you think your client likes you it’s important to remember they are paying.

  • Watching someone weave their way doesn’t look great.
  • Having a conversation with an instructor who clearly isn’t sober doesn’t leave a great impression
  • Video of an instructor drunk and struggling stand up did the rounds a few years ago is nothing short of awful publicity.

How it looks to potential clients

Erica has had a client in the office, whose kids were skiing with us, say they’ve seen other school’s instructors out partying hard. She’s reassured that her kids aren’t with those schools.

How we look around town

Chat around town about how certain schools’ instructors booze hard at après ski, that is not the chat we want about Summit.

Your chat a few hours into après ski. We’ve all had a drink before, and we don’t always make the best decisions or say the best things after one too many. Being a bit gobby after a drink in uniform is unacceptable.

It’s not good for the reputation of the school, there are plenty of people in here who have worked hard to create the reputation Summit has. That has taken time and effort and is so easy to destroy by being drunk in uniform.

Remember, most of the people we’re trying to appeal to (and sell lessons to) are not part of the après ski scene.

Uniform cleanliness

Jackets left on floor, on the backs of chairs, on tables etc are bound to get dirty. Beer, gluhwein, shots flying around inevitably make the uniforms dirtier. Our image is important to us, part of that is looking sharp on the hill, in a clean uniform.

These are the reasons we have the no uniform in bars after 6pm. It’s not a suggestion or guideline. It’s a rule.

We’d love to be able to say responsible drinking in uniform. We tried it. Good decisions don’t get made once a few drinks have been had. So we make the decision for you.

No uniform in any bars after 6pm. Even if you pop to the shop on your way home, everyone should be out of uniform by 630.

If we can’t manage to do this then we’ll just say no après in uniform, full stop.

Office support

If you are ever stuck in a situation where your clients are asking something of you that you can’t or don’t want to do, eg:

  • Drop off at end of a lesson that means it will be impossible to make it to your next lesson on time
  • Meet at a place you don’t think you can get to on time
  • Get out of après ski
  • Any discussion about the price of lessons or cancelation policy or how payments work.
  • Etc

Then remember you can aways call the office, we are more than happy to help you if you are not sure how to cope with a. situation.

Penguin

We can order off the Penguin website with a 45% discount next week. We’ll send out a link and some example prices. If anyone would like any items, just message P.

Training

Starts this week for anyone interested. There are 2 different apps I will invite you to.

CoachNow – we have used for sharing video with the Gappies, I have put all the baseline video up there and we will use this to share video through the season

Spond – This has all the sessions that are running, you can see what it is, where it meets, and who’s taking it. (although things may change with weather or work). You can sign up and see who else is going in the app too.

This winter we are going to do it all through this. You can sign up and Erica will add you to training in the bookings. If any big work comes in she will call around if you have made it clear to her that you’d like to train but are also happy to work if there is something/

As ever needs a minimum of 3 to run

Both apps are new, so bear with us if there are any problems.

If you have any requests for training sessions then let me know

Feedback from clients

Typeform:

Kath – I had a great time with Cedric and he was very sympathetic with my coccyx pain!

Freddy skied with Alex – Exceptionally skilled at helping one progress, clearly very experienced, patient and great to spend time with

Lenz – Both Luuk and Cedric were fantastic. They were both very accommodating, patient, and great with the kids. All the best folks.

Pauline  – Rory was amazing, great instructor, very personable and made the lesson fun and interesting

Mila skied with Joe and Nick – They both have a different style of teaching, but they are both very knowledgeable. I’ve picked up all the feedback I could get.

Amy skied with Ash – Ash was fantastic. So friendly and he completely made our ski experience great. Would have seen only a fraction of the mountain had he not been there to guide us! He knew exactly which lifts were open, what runs to take given our skill level, and what lunch and apres ski spots to visit!

Email

Nadine – I wanted to let you know that our lesson with Tom was absolutely fantastic. His patience and good nature made us feel at ease, and he is an excellent instructor. Thank you for facilitating such a fantastic experience on short notice!

Lester Chan – Hi There,My wife and I would like to say thank you for giving us a wonderful skiing experience.
We have a good three days of learning with our ski instructor, Christine. She has patience and is very encouraging to us as beginner skiers. Please pass on our appreciation

Darpan – Joe was the best instructor we could’ve asked for!!!

Melissa – Wanted to let you know what a great time Lydia had with Joe today.  He really boosted her confidence and despite being exhausted after the class; she was in very good spirits!  Thanks so much for helping to facilitate this last-minute request and please tell Joe how much we appreciated his teaching skills!

Mitch – Cedric was very kind and patient. Jasmin had some issues to get on the board due to her knee and he was kind and supportive to offer alternatives. Afterwards Cedric and I went for a more intermediate lesson where he was able to show me how to correct my form by using my knees more to dig into the edge to control my speed. We had a small lunch together and he taught us about some safe tracks to take and how to get to different places.

Miles – I had Bernardo as my instructor and not only was he a great instructor but also a great person to talk with and very relatable. He adapted the lessons to suit the ability of all the people in our group and I felt I progressed more than I ever have. Even though there were very different levels of competence throughout the group I felt like we were all similar by the end of the week. In addition, he is an amazing photographer as I asked him to film a couple of runs and the quality was amazing which made a great addition to the holiday. I really enjoyed this week and I’m so annoyed it’s over so quickly!!
Thank you Bernardo!

James – Happy new year! I enjoyed it a lot, and Jake was great.

Emma – Thank you for another wonderful week of skiing for Nia. Christine was exceptional, and Nia really enjoyed it. She has improved significantly too. Have a fantastic rest of season and see you in December!!!

Eileen – Just to say I had a lovely time with Brittany I would highly recommend her to other clients.

Irene – Thanks, Bernardo was VERY good, he helped Pavlos evolve greatly, always happy and always eager to help. Very pleased with their ski school! Thank you very much

Rachel & Ruben – Thank you Mike for the session.  My kiddos totally enjoyed it and will continue for the afternoon.  They commented that Mike was very encouraging so kudos to the man and Summit Ski and Snowboard School! And many thanks to Erica for helping arrange and answering my man queries!

Tripadvisor

Cez D. – This is the second or third time I’ve used Summit for lessons for myself and friends of mine.
They are so responsive and kind. Very helpful when it comes to booking and moving lessons.
William is a legend! I couldn’t recommend this company more.
Thank you for a great experience!

Alissam – Summit ski surpassed our expectations. We skied 6 days, with 3 different instructors/guides and each day was excellent. I don’t know how we would have gotten around with them. They managed our large group of personalities and ages effortlessly. They managed our lunch reservations, starting times and levels. I can’t say enough good things about Summit. Big shout out to Jack, Chris and Henry for making it extra fun.

Danny051 – Great tour and lesson. Joe was incredible. All of us had the best time! Highly recommend. Can’t wait to tour with them again

Anonymous – Highly recommend! My daughter and I had a great experience. I was fortunate enough to have William assigned to my private lesson. My daughter lucked out with Rory. I was carving it up by the end of my class and my daughter, who hadn’t skied since 2020, was bust in up red slopes under Rory’s tutelage. Here’s the central selling point… kids’ group lessons are no larger than four kids. It’s a private lesson. Nuf said.

Harry H – Brilliant instructor (Mike) had all the family skiing in no time ! Never thought I’d see my wife skiing, but within 2 days she was on the blue slopes ! Can’t recommend Summit enough 😀

BKKTraveller31 – I had private lessons for myself and my son, who had had an accident and needed his confience restored and his technique improved. Mark and Will were both excellent. Friendly, efficient, effective and super-encouraging. This school will be my first choice if I need more lessons in Zermatt.

MichelleinCalifornia – This is not the first time we’ve used Summit, and it definitely won’t be the last. My son wanted to brush up on his snowboarding skills (he’s normally a skier)—his instructor made the day fun, gave Jackson some great tips, and really helped him improve! I have reviewed Summit before (always excellent!), and I just have to say that this is perhaps the tenth day that we’ve used them, and things have ALWAYS been fantastic. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to absolutely anyone looking for a great day on the mountain.

Henry B – Our instructor Rory was amazing. He was friendly, professional, flexible and fun. We couldn’t rate him higher.

Anabella D – We loved Summit Ski School. Because of 5 days of improving my skills and mental game (less fear, less worries & a lot more fun!) with Swedish ski instructor William, I ended up carving down the Matterhorn, and even skiing to the furthest point in Italy & back to Switzerland in one day. We hope he’s there next year so we can do even more! Definitely request him for amazing time on the slopes!
our boys 7 & 8 got Danish Christine who was also super! They were basically skiing backwards & doing jumps after a week. Highly recommend ⭐️

CraigFleur N – Thank you to Harry for an excellent first time 2day introduction for our family to the snow at Zermatt. Got our 2 oldest kids 16 and 14 out on a blue run in 2 hours which they loved and amazingly patient with our 11 yo who took longer but with Harry’s time progressed in 2 days through the beginner area. Also very kind to the anxious mother and encouraged her down the blue run with success.

Robin L – I have never snowboarded before and this was honestly the perfect lesson! Brittany was so patient, so kind, and just all around amazing! She made being out there so much fun and exciting to learn! She kept pushing me and helping me to improve and taking the time to really help me learn. I want to recommend her to everyone I can and if I ever come back, I would hands down pick her every time! Thank you guys again for such a fun and pleasant experience in Zermatt and for my first time ever snowboarding!

Google

Benjamin Hochberg – Recommended to us by a friend. The founder and owner, Henry, was our guide for the day. He was endlessly kind and knowledgeable about Zermatt, having lived in town full time for twenty years. Extremely personal service and amazing guiding!

Chiara Rhoda – Our ski experience was accompanied by the professionalism of Maestro Bernardo. Availability and above all good with the Italian language. Thanks and see you next year.
