Changes made after feedback forms that were filled in and adding to mid season chats and other thoughts from the winter so we can answer questions like request vs rollover pay rates, knowing request bookings in advance, thoughts on training structure etc.
Here is a start, so let us know if you have any more questions.
The suggestion was made that request and rollover rates should be the same as 3chf an hour is not a much of a reward for a request booking. Questions were also asked about what makes a request or a rollover:
- New this winter; both request and rollover are paid at 5chf per hour.
- We still value the work that goes into rollovers, so the 5 instructors with the highest rollover season totals will get a prize at the end of the winter.
We had lots of feedback on the booking system and work notification: Could it be more automated? Can all bookings be online? Can I know my request bookings for the season ahead?
- In terms of knowing work further ahead you can come in and ask in the office anytime about request work that you have booked in during the season so you can plan training, holidays, courses etc.
- The way we work is that all other lessons are allocated the week before so we can’t tell what you might have 2 weeks away as it changes all the time.
- We would love to have a more automated system that everyone could check work online, it is in our future but it’s not going to be this season unfortunately.
We had some thoughts about work notifications and why there is the need to double check everything.
- We are going to change the Saturday work notification procedure. This winter you will not have to let us know you have seen the work notification on a Saturday. It will be sent out as usual, and we will assume that you have seen it.
- For us the absolutely key is that as a team we are at the right meeting point to meet the client for every lesson. If this doesn’t work and we’ll go back to the office double checking everyone has seen their notifications.
- Zermatt is not an easy resort where we all start and finish the same place, morning and afternoon every day. So, for bookings taken on the day we need to know that you know about it. That way whoever is in the office can relax and know the instructor is going to meet the client.
A couple of people asked about making sure we have the information available for when a booking spans the weekend.
- We are aware this does happen more than it used to and in terms of being the professionals we all want to be on the hill it is good information to know, and that the booking information does not always get communicated.
- It is not possible to automate in the current system but we will make sure that the information is added to the booking notes that you see.
Some questions arose about the necessity of having a team meeting every 2 weeks.
- We like getting everyone together.
- We will make sure the meeting notes are online for all to see.
- We will still have a meeting every 2 weeks, but it will be more social, that way the location can vary, it could be a ‘pool and beers evening’ one week and then the North Wall the next time. We would like to get as many as possible together for a catch up with some regularity. If there is anything important we need to communicate at a meeting we will let everyone know in good time.
The question of Swiss vs UK phone numbers came up and the effectiveness of having two phones.
- The key here is that everyone is able to be in contact with the office and each other.
- The important thing is that everyone has some form of data as we will move largely towards WhatsApp to message. (Also all the stations have wifi now)
- Hopefully with wifi availability and the data packages available on your contracted phone we should be able to do most calls for free, occasionally having to make an international call if someone is on a UK phone. For this reason we are going to stop the phone credit next winter.
- We think this will also help when people are in Italy, sometimes there are issues with people not getting texts on a pay as you go Swiss number as you don’t have roaming.
We have reviewed the brochure drop idea after some feedback. We are aware that some do a lot more community service hours than others.
- Next winter brochure drops will not be compulsory for all
- We feel the drops are an important link with the hotels and would like to keep it going
- We will be asking for people to volunteer to do it and in return will buy dinner for them at a team dinner out or a time that works for everyone.
