Social charges coming out of your wages:
There are various social charges that everyone in Switzerland has to pay out of their wages. Obviously, we organise all this for you but just so you’re aware:
Tax at source
Tax at source is dependent on your earnings and won’t be more than 5%
Pension contributions
Compulsory pensions (AHV and BVG) / unemployment (ALV) / family allowance contributions, depending on your age and earnings, total 6-11%
Accident insurance
Medical insurance due to accident (UVG) is a fixed rate of approx. 3-4%
Sickness insurance
Medical insurance due to sickness (Krankenkasse) is a fixed amount, depending on your age, of CHF 200-320 per month.
Although the charges can add up to about 25% of your earnings, the cover you get is excellent.
If you’re injured as a result of an accident (whether you’re working or not), all costs are covered (rescue and medical) without an excess and you are paid 80% of your wages if you are unable to work due to injury. This insurance is not valid if you work less than 8 hours a week.
If you are sick, then there is an excess of CHF 800 that you pay towards your medical bills (you can reduce this excess if you wish but your monthly contributions almost double). This excess covers all sickness bills for 3 months. If you’re unable to work due to illness, you will get paid 80% of your wage.
If you’re wondering what all the sections are on your pay slip:
101 Hours at basic rate
102 Hours at request or rollover rate (+5chf)
104 Off snow hours (@ 20chf p.h.). Eg. for the brochure run.

330 Pension Fund (BVG) is an obligatory private pension scheme. I’ve charged 5% to everyone but the actual rate depends on earnings over the winter. BVG will be adjusted at the end of the season.
360 Family allowance is a government scheme (fixed %age for everyone)
400 Tax at Source. This is income tax and will vary month to month. The percentage is dependent on your average earnings.

Just let Paul know if you have any questions at all.
