Meeting 08/04/23

Thanks for Half term (!!) – That’s how long ago we last did this!

So good to get through it so smoothly. Considering the very average piste conditions, with so many great bits of amazing feedback. Bravo team.

The Easter peak period has been quieter. You guys are awesome continuing to roll lessons and there’s some awesome feedback still coming in.

Exam passes

Lots of courses have happened since the last meeting well done everyone.

Lettie, Michael & Rory on the 3 tech

Lettie & Rory – 3 teach

Nick & Joe Mc – 4 tech

Emily – IML

The are the ones I know about but I know other courses have happened if I’ve missed anyone and good luck in Hintertux

Training

Nothing planned for the end of season but if anyone is off to exams and wants to then drop me a message and will see what we can do.

End of winter rapidly approaching!

Last wages:

Take a while as there are amendments to tax at source and BVG which take some calculating and cooperation from the pension company. Usually means cash added to wages so worth waiting for. We’ll get it done asap.

If you want to be paid into a non Swiss account then let Paul know.

Uniform return:

Wash it and drop it into the office. We need it back clean and if it’s in good condition, you’ll get your 100chf deposit back.

Signing out:

If you leave earlier than your contract ends, you should go sign out at your gemeinde. Let P know what day you signed out and (if it’s through us) you just get charged Krankenkasse up to that date.

Otherwise, we / they just assume you finished work at the end of your contract. You don’t need to go in.

Leaving accommodation:

It’s really important to leave any rented accommodation in a good state. Whether it’s through us or direct with the landlord, leaving it in anything other than tiptop shape reflects badly on instructors / Summit as renters and makes it even harder to rent places in the future.

We know it’s hard to be motivated for end of season cleaning but either get stuck in or pay someone to do it properly. Remember the Swiss standards of cleanliness are very high. Please don’t just think “Sod it, that can come out of my deposit”, that’s what leaves the bad impression.

Catching up

If anyone would like to meet with HEP before you leave. To discuss the winter / ask about next year etc, just let us know.

End of winter Summit bash

Tuesday 18th. 5pm in the Turbina. Food and drink on us. No skiing involved.

We’ll kick off with a Taskmaster-esque event (maybe youtube it if you don’t know what it is). Teams of 4. You can make your own teams and send us your team name / members by Wednesday 12th. Otherwise, we’ll allocate you a team. You’ll want a range of skills in there, some tasks will be issued in advance.

Prizes to be won and the winning team members will win tandem paragliding flights!

Emily wrote: Tom is a very skilled teacher who listens well to your exact needs, and is able to translate that to a bespoke training. His way of training is fitting to your abilities but also challenges you in a very positive way, so as to gain confidence. In this way I had to get out of my comfort zone of the blue slopes and got my best ski experience ever on all the red ones!I have regained my confidence and had a lot of fun. I would very much recommend this ski school, its all very professional and very much worth the investment.

Li wrote: Kids had a wonderful time skiing with Brittany in Italy. They particularly liked the challenge of going off-piste

Mike wrote about Harry: Sacrificed some instruction for a better tour of the mountain. He followed up with some tips in an email which was appreciated.

ZSC wrote: Shout out to Joe on this booking. The guests loved him and said they would want Camille to ski with him again next winter if possible!

Joshua wrote: Michael went above and beyond. He refined my skills and taught me with great care and consideration. I was so impressed and grateful for his help. I would recommend him to anyone looking to improve and have fun while doing it!

Elif wrote: My daughters really enjoyed skiing and loved their instructors. This is a great experience for them.

Both Alex and Lieve were amazing with the kids.

Joe wrote: It was really good actually. I wasn’t particularly looking forward to it as I had a niggling injury and had fallen multiple times during another beginners class in the UK a while back. Martin was excellent and gave clear, simple instructions and was most importantly patient. I only fell once, right near the end of the session as tiredness kicked in. My wife enjoyed the session too. We’re both glad we did it, good fun in a beautiful setting. Martin seemed a lovely chap. If I was asked I’d definitely recommend people to book in, a cracking experience. Thanks!

Gustav wrote: Thank you very much for organising Joe Lightfoot this week – it’s been a great experience. He was a real credit to Summit, and a very nice person to spend the week with.

Kathryn wrote: Just a note to say thank you again for another great ski trip.
Can I just say Joe L was just so great, as an instructor but also as a person too, such a lovely guy and a great asset to Summit.

Stephen Harley wrote:

Rory….
In charge of 2 teenage girls for the week. Managed to move both forward quickly. The impressive fact is both at different levels and both so much better by end of the week. Difficult assignment for sure but a brilliant instructor.
Joe Lightfoot
Hardest job of the week. Coaching a nervous beginner. Built confidence quickly. Moved on to harder runs and confidence grew. Outstanding individual who understands different levels of ability. If a nervous skier he is the man !

Alecs Borjesson
Assignment for the week 2 teenage boys full of testosterone !  Possibly blue runs at best to start in ability stakes. After 4 days flying down black runs. Alecs built the boys confidence slowly and safely which is key. This lad is a brilliant instructor.

Julia wrote about Christine: It was great!

Philippe wrote: Thank you very much for arranging to have Liam be our ski instructor for the week.
My daughters and wife had a great time. Liam is very versatile, they were of different levels and different athletic abilities and yet they all enjoyed his lessons.

He has the enthusiasm of a new instructor and the patience of a seasoned teacher. Liam is thoughtful and made us all feel comfortable. We will be back next year as long as Liam continues to be our teacher.
Thank you Liam.

I also had a good time with Ash.

Rami wrote: We had great time with Joe L. He was both professional and great fun to talk to.

My wife managed to regain confidence in her skiing after coming back from an ACL injury and not skiing for 7 years.

Joe L definitely had a major contribution in that.

MiamY4810VI: Our experience with Summit Ski School was wonderful! My kids ages 7 and 11 had Brittany and Harry, and they had the best time! I also tagged along one day and I could see how patient and caring they were, and I know they gave our kids lots of great pointers. My kids are so ready to come back and ski with them again.

Julia M: Me (16yo) and my mother (44yo) had ash and christine for instructors, they were great and very patient. We improved so much on the 3 days we had lessons with them. They made recommendations and exercises for our improvent.

SophiaM: We did two half days with Bernado, who really taught us outstanding technique, we improved within hours. He’s a very experienced skiier, and has lots of story’s to tell. He’s also extremely kind, I would 100% recommend Bernado if you want to improve your skiing. He also gave us a few amazing recommendations for restaurants which we love. Then, we did two full days with Mike. Mike was amazing! He knew some amazing food places, we had a very enjoyable two days with Mike. He challenged us but also was patient and made sure we were doing the correct technique. He also gave us a few recommendations, which we can’t wait to try. Mike also had stories to tell, we enjoyed our two days with him! Overall, I would 100% recommend Summit ski school if you want to improve your skiing. See you soon Zermatt!

EmmaJ: Thanks so much to Tom after a few hours 2 of the children went on the slopes and even had the confidence to face some pretty challenging areas. He had patient and gave everyone confidence and the right tools to start their skiing journeys off. Brilliant teacher thanks Tom

HenryJax: We have not skied in a few years. Very concerned about the ability to navigate the swiss ski resort. From past experience the Swiss do not mark their runs as well as North American resorts. So we hired Summit to provide a guide. WE had originally scheduled for 1 day. Eric met us at our hotel and took us up the mountain for the entire day. Excellent instructions and tips. Eric chose the best runs for our skill level. We enjoyed it so much we hired Eric for a second day. We skied over into Italy and enjoyed Cervinia. Lunch on the mountain with a good bottle of red wine. Eric made all the reservations from the chair lift based on what we had in mind for the day. Summit and Eric took at the anxiety away on how to navigate the mountain and I just skied and enjoyed the day. The best day of skiing ever. Perfect company with excellent communication and top flight instructors.

Eric S: We hired Summit to orient our group of 7 very experienced skiers on our first trip to Zermatt. What we got was one of the best days of skiing we’ve ever had (7100 M vertical!). We were very lucky to have had Chris, a 20+ year Zermatt instructor/guide. Our day was an amazing mix of tons of great terrain, history, geography, photography, and helpful ski tips for each of us. His detailed tips for tackling Cervinia (lifts, trails, and restaurants) was an added bonus. A big thank you to Summit and Chris for the greatest day! The scenery didn’t hurt either.

Gray G: Our family cannot begin to imagine this trip without Summit Ski School! We booked our son for a week of ski school and my husband for two days of private instruction. William was the instructor for ski school and he went ABOVE AND BEYOND the entire week. At one point, our son lost his goggles on the lift and William made a point to ski down and get them. My husband had private guidance from Joe and enjoyed Joe so much, he added him for two additional mornings. We also added William for an afternoon. This allowed our 7 year old to ski to Italy with his dad-a highlight and once in a lifetime memory! I do not have enough wonderful things to say about the entire company-from the office to the instructors. Absolutely amazing!

Trail090138: Easy to book online and our tutor Luuk was great with some useful tips for two beginners and patient. Also Summit responded very quickly to my email query.

CarolineS: Summit Ski School made our week in Zermatt! We just finished up 4 days with Summit and used two of their guides. It made the week!! We have been to Zermatt many times, so maybe we didn’t need a guide, but by using Summit we tripled our ski time, covered terrain we never would have seen, and didn’t have to worry about a thing. They handled our timing for lunch, and end of day.. I had two grown sons in tow, and was worried I couldn’t keep up…..but SUMMIT guides made it effortless. I truly cannot thank them enough!! I usually ski 2 to 3 hours, but with Summit I skied 9am til after 4pm and had the best time. They were very flexible and easy to book with. They were very responsive and extremely accommodating when I wanted to move a day, and add another. I am not used to this level of customer service in Vermont or from the Vail resorts. Truly, thank you for the best week.

MollyM: Had a lovely three days with Harry B. All of us were very beginner skiers ranging in age from 12 to 47. The adults had not skied in 30+ years. Harry was super patient with all of us and a lot of fun to be around. The 15 year old girls had a blast and even got Harry to make a Tiktok video. The 12 year old was struggling after the 1st day at Wolli Park, and we were torn about what to do. Everyone else was ready to move on to skiing some blue runs. Harry suggested dividing his time between our 12 year old and the more able skiers, but fortunately Summit was able to provide another great instructor, Nick, for the following morning. He got our 12 year old out of Wolli Park and onto the slopes in just 3 hours the second day of skiing. After that we were all able to ski together with Harry and had such a fun time. He took the time to watch each skier and provide feedback. He made restaurant suggestions, took photos and videos, and was an all around great guide. He even convinced us to try the hardest blue run and a red run on our last day. Summit was so easy to work with to book our lessons and even add a last minute instructor when we needed a little extra help. They were very responsive to WhatsApp messages and emails. I would highly recommend Summit Ski School to anyone visiting Zermatt. I only wish we had more days to explore the slopes of Zermatt with Harry and Nick!

RealDealSteve: My three girls had a private lesson with Christine. Initially they didn’t want any lessons but after the first day they asked to ski with her every day, She even made restaurant reservations for us. Highly recommended!

100% recommended

He listened to her and understood how to build up her confidence and give her the tips to practice on her own after the lesson. Bernardo also went out of his way to answer all our questions and gave us a detailed itinerary for our second day so we can maximize our time on the slopes!

Raquel Fuss: Wonderfull , recommended 100%!! My teacher was Alex . He was very patient and very positive. So that gave me the confidence and took away my fear! Thank you !!!
